Dental Bridge VS Dental Implants: comparison of costs and benefits

Dental bridges are mainly used to bridge the hollow space created by one or more missing teeth. In this procedure, the bridge is supported by adjacent natural or implanted teeth by using one or more crowns for the teeth on each part of the gap.

This process of anchoring is called as Osteointegration which takes up to 3-6 months. After 3-6 months, an abutment is attached to this titanium post (artificial root). This provides an area where the dental crown is screwed into.

There are mainly two types of dental implants:-

1. Endosteal Implants
2. Subperiosteal Implants

Now, let us discuss the pros and cons of Dental implants.

4. No strain on teeth

Cons

1. Need to go through a surgery
2. Involves a good amount of time
3. Cost may depend and vary from case-to-case

You can consider these facts to make a decision as per your convenience. If you want long lasting result, then you can opt for dental implants which will last long for more than 15 years as compared to dental bridges which last long for 5-7 years. But the cost factor may disturb you as dental implants are rarely covered by your insurance company as compared to dental bridges which is mostly covered. You may also suffer with some bone or gum loss in dental bridge but there is little to no bone or gum loss in dental implants. You may need to visit your dentists for routine check-ups in 3-6 months in dental implantation as compared to dental bridgework which requires at least 2-3 visits over few weeks. And it is easier to maintain oral hygiene with dental implants.
